Banking is an interesting but demanding profession. In his daily duties, a banker deals with all types of people - generally known as customers. In view of the legal nature of the banker-customer relationship, a good banker must possess a sound understanding and appreciation of the legal principles, coupled with relevant and wide practical working knowledge, experience and exposure, to enable him to resolve the innumerable issues and problems confidently, tactfully and wisely. And, in addition to the essential intellectual and moral qualifications, he must possess good common sense!

At present, there are not many good local banking books available. This is understandable. To write a simple banking book itself takes a lot of research, persistency, consistency, patience, perseverance, tolerance, self-sacrifice and above all commitment and moral courage! One should not expect ample rewards, praise or recognition for one's efforts.

This book is therefore a small contribution and fulfilment of my moral obligation to share my knowledge and experience with the younger generation. As always, I have endeavoured to cover the various aspects and subject matter in simple layman language. No doubt, this book will prove its worth and be beneficial to readers in the business, financial and investment world - the banking/ commerce students, the banking/finance company personnel, businessmen, corporate executives, bankers themselves and the ordinary man-in-the-street.
