| TITLE : SELECTED CASES IN STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT. |
Selected Cases in Strategic Management is designed for both undergraduate and graduate courses in strategic management or business policy that emphasize learning through the case method. It can be used as the sole text in the course or in conjunction with other texts or methods including the authors' Strategic Management: A Focus on Process, which contains an exposition of strategic management theory.
The cases in this book are divided into five sections which include (1) Overview of Strategic Management, (2) Environmental Analysis and Organizational Direction, (3) Strategy Formulation, (4) Strategy Implementation and Control, and (5) Special Issues in Strategic Management. In addition, each section ends with a classic case. A classic case is a case which has been successfully used in strategic management education for a number of years and is viewed by both instructors and students as an excellent learning device.
It cannot be overemphasized, however, that all the cases in this book are multidimensional and contain a number of different issues for analysis. The cases are included in each section because an important part of their analysis involves issues suggested by the section heading, not because they deal only with these issues. For example, a special feature of this book is that each case concludes with an Industrial Hlghlight that gives an overview of the industry at the approximate time of the case. These highlights may contain useful information for analysis independent of the section the case is listed in. Thus, while case analysts should be mindful of the issues involved in each case section, they should not overlook other important areas of strategic management analysis .
The final section of the book offers a comprehensive approach to analyzing strategic management problems and cases. We believe that this section is useful for developing strategic management case analysis skills. It is placed at the end of the book for convenient reference should the instructor choose to emphasize this approach.
