| TITLE : ECONOMIC STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION. REV ED. |
THE second edition differs from the first edition in two ways. Firstly, we have tried to bring the facts and figures on Malaysia and Singapore up to date. However, due to the fact that the Third Malaysia Plan (1976 1980) was published only at the time that this particularedition was going to press, it was not always possible to incorporate the latest figures and projections on Malaysia in the relevant sections; but there is a short section on the Third Malaysia Plan at the end of Chapter l. Secondly, we have added multiple-choice questions as well as a few more sample HSC essay questions at the end of each chapter. This book should be used with its companion volume-Elements of Economic Theory. As Economic Structure and Oanization devotes a great deal of attention to the current economic situations prevailing in Malaysia and in Singapore, the facts and figures can of course get out of date quickly. Teachers and students using this book may thus have to supplement them, when the situation demands, with more up-to-date data.
As the HSC multiple-choice questions make no reference to any particular country, we have similarly avoided multiple-choice questions specifically on either Malaysia or Singapore. Many essay questions, however, are directly about the two economics or relate to them.
As in Elements of Economic Theory, in this book we have avoided providing answers to the questions, including the multiple-choice questions. We hope this will provide a stimulus for more fruitful discussions both inside and outside the classroom.
We strongly recommend that schools make available as many recommended reading materials as possible in the school libraries, so that students can gain maximum benefit from their study of Economics.
Lastly, we thank the Local Cambridge Examination Syndicate for permission to reproduce the HSC Economics essay questions.
