| TITLE : SECRETARIAL PROCEDURES: OFFICE ADMINISTRATION AND AUTOMATED SYSTEMS. |
PREFACE
Secretarial Procedures: Office Administration and Automated Systems emphasizes the practical aspects of the tasks performed by the secretarial and administrative staff. The book thoroughly covers topics relating to most secretarial duties including areas normally not covered in other secretarial or administrative procedures courses. It is appropriate as a textbook for a capstone course in secretarial, office, and administrative procedures offered at two- and four-year colleges and business schools and as a reference book for those already working in the secretarial and administrative areas.
Organizational structures, the classifications of secretarial positions, and the general role of the secretary as a member of a team are discussed in chapter 1. Succeeding chapters provide preliminary training and general knowledge concerning technologies, office environment, mail services, telephone and telegraph services, reference material, supplies, and writing principles.
Human relations in general are covered in chapter 17; the human relations skills essential to effectively interact with the public and with co-workers are covered in chapters 18 and 19.
The knowledge and skills frequently needed by secretaries are comprehensively covered in the chapters on managing time, understanding the law, using the telephone, processing mail, composing, arranging meetings, preparing minutes, preparing reports, and making travel arrangements.
The employment process is covered in detail in chapter 21. Chapter 22 helps the secretary become cognizant of the qualities necessary for success and offers concrete suggestions that will aid the secretary in advancing professionally.
Questions, projects, and cases are presented at the end of each chapter and are designed to reinforce and enhance the material covered.
